LENT 2009
During this season of Lent, Catholics all over the world are asked to enter into a time of penance and reflection, humbly asking God to help us be better followers of Christ. Over these forty days, prepare to celebrate the passion and resurrection of our Lord through extra prayer, works of penance and fasting.
Remember that all the Fridays of Lent are days of penance and abstinence, which means that Catholics 14 years and older are bound to abstain from eating any meat, as a sign of corporate penance. Another great tradition for the Fridays of Lent is to pray the Stations of the Cross, recalling the journey of Christ to his sacrificial death at Calvary.
Each Friday of Lent, St. John's will pray the Stations of the Cross at 5:15pm in the church, led by Deacon Ted Klingen, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Also, the Knights of Columbus host a fish fry in the parish hall from 5pm until 7pm on the Fridays of Lent. All are welcome!
